Announcing the Shifting Minds Learning Innovation Award 2020

MEDIA RELEASE: October 28th, 2020:
C21 Canada Shifting Minds Learning and Innovation Leadership Award Presented to Dr. Jordan Tinney, Superintendent of the Surrey School District in British Columbia
October 28th, 7:00 PM virtually at the 11th Canadian EdTech Leadership Summit

C21 Canada is pleased to announce Dr. Jordan Tinney, Superintendent of the Surrey Surrey School District in British Columbia as its most recent Shifting Minds Learning Innovation Award recipient.

A founding member of the CEO Academy network of school system leaders across Canada, Jordan has been a vanguard for system leadership – driven by the pursuit of learning and innovation. The pandemic has only served to illuminate the depth and breadth of 21st Century Learning and Innovation infrastructure that is enabling Surrey School District to embrace the new shift and placing equity and access as the central lens for the learning agenda.

“This pandemic has impacted the public school system in very significant ways, and Jordan has been able to connect with our community and provide reassurance and unwavering guidance during this uncertain time,” says Laurie Larsen, Chair of the Surrey Board of Education.

“We are truly impressed with Jordan’s professionalism, knowledge and integrity as he leads us forward in these uncertain times. We are proud to call him our Superintendent and look forward to working with him,” says Lakhbir Johal, President of the Surrey School District Parent Advisory Council

The coveted Shifting Minds national award, established in 2011, was a creative collaboration from New Brunswick, Ontario, Manitoba, Connecticut and Utah. A Shifting Minds hologram and the C21 Canada “true north” pewter compass represent the vision and the journey of 21st Century learning and innovation in Canada.

C21 Canada President, David Roberts credits “Jordan’s capacity to address details, communicate the big picture and create a culture of collaboration with inspiring people into trusting their capacity to learn and going places they wouldn’t normally go.”

On behalf of C21 Canada, please join us in congratulating the 2020 National Shifting Minds Individual award winner from the Surrey School District, Dr. Jordan Tinney

C21 Canada is a national, not-for-profit organization advocating for the accelerated integration of 21st century competencies, instructional practices, and digital services and resources in Canada’s learning systems.
